About the community
City of Morden · Pembina Valley · Manitoba

Morden is a city of about 10,000 in Manitoba’s Pembina Valley, close to the United States border. It is home to the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre and the Corn and Apple Festival, and it has been one of the fastest-growing communities in the province.

The City of Morden app, powered by Communikit, brings Council news, utility and street updates, recreation programs, events and city documents into one feed. Staff publish once from the admin portal, and an emergency notice can reach every household on push, SMS and voice from the same screen.

A growing city means more newcomers who do not yet know where to look for local news. Everything the city publishes lands in one feed, with tabs for News, Events, Jobs and Documents. A new resident looking for the snow-clearing schedule or a recreation registration finds it in the same place as everyone else.

An app that feels like City of Morden

Members search for City of Morden by name and find their own app — the community’s crest on the icon, its colours through every screen, its own language in place of a generic shell.

Administration keeps full control. Staff decide who can post, which groups receive what, and whether a notice goes out as an ordinary update or as a critical alert that bypasses Do Not Disturb. Registered members get a personalised feed and can save the posts that matter to them; everyone else still sees every public notice.

Public Works notices with the detail residents need

When Public Works began its annual fall sewer main flushing, the notice went out as one post with the dates, a photo and what residents should do if they noticed an odour. It sits in the feed tagged Public Works, so anyone who missed the push notification can still find it later.
