Mohawk Council of Kanesatake
A community app that brings members, news, and resources together.

Kanehsatà:ke, the Place Where the Crusty Sand Dunes Are, lies along the Ottawa River in Quebec. Its people are Kanien’kehá:ka, the People of the Flint, one of the founding nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, guided by the Kaianere’kó:wa, the Great Law of Peace. Kanehsatà:ke is named in the Condolence Ceremony as a Turtle Clan village, and in 1613 its people took part in the Two-Row Wampum Treaty. Its lands were never surrendered, ceded or sold.
The Mohawk Council of Kanehsatà:ke serves the community from 681 Ste-Philomène. Its departments include the Kanehsatà:ke Health Center, the Education Center, the Early Childcare Center, Housing, Lands & Estates, Membership, Kanehsatà:ke Perimeter Security, the Employment & Training Service Center, Social Development, Culture & Language and Environment. The Tsi Ronterihwanónhnha ne Kanien’kéha Language and Culture Center runs classes, workshops and events for youth, adults and Elders.

Membership in Kanehsatà:ke does not depend on residency, and members keep their rights wherever they live. Council notices, press releases, department updates and emergency contacts had to reach all of them. MCK Connect, powered by Communikit, gives members one feed with tabs for All, News, Events, Jobs and Documents. The community notice announcing the new kanehsatake.ca sits beside Kanehsatà:ke Perimeter Security patrol reports, a request for proposals for a Chief Electoral Officer, and events such as the Build Your Business Plan workshop series run with Kanehsatake Business & Economic Development.
An app that feels like Mohawk Council of Kanesatake
Members search for MCK Connect in the App Store or Google Play and find their own Council. The app opens on the Council crest, with the Bear and the Wolf on the turtle’s back above the wampum belt, set over the hills and river of the territory. Every screen carries the Council’s blue header with its name in English and Kanien’kéha.
The Council decides what goes out and to whom. Contact Us, Technical Support and FAQs sit in every member’s profile menu, so questions about the app come to our team rather than the Council office. Critical Alerts go out on push, SMS and voice from one send, reaching members in Kanehsatà:ke and those living away at the same time.
This is an additional channel of communication with our members that is lightning fast. It also has the safety that Facebook doesn’t. It has the potential to give every single community member a voice that can be heard without it being smothered by intimidation.
Community safety updates in the same feed
Kanehsatà:ke Perimeter Security handles initial response to incidents such as car accidents, fires and community safety matters, and acts as a bridge to the Sûreté du Québec. Its monthly patrol stats and speeding stop reports are posted to the News tab next to Council notices and job postings, so members see them without visiting another site.
